In a very surprising move, Politico reports that DNC Vice Chair Keith Ellison may decide to run for Minnesota Attorney General now that the current Attorney General, Lori Swanson, has decided to run for Governor of the state of Minnesota.
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) is expected to make a last-minute entry into the race for Minnesota attorney general on Tuesday, according to two people familiar with his plans.
“I will make a decision tomorrow because it’s the filling deadline,” Ellison said, not disputing that he is likely to enter the election.
“DNC Deputy Chair Ellison expected to run for Minnesota AG” by Edward-Isaac Dovere, Politico.com 6/4/2018
As far as I know, there is no one that is standing in the wings to take his spot in Congress. I live in his district and I don’t think this seat is in danger, but if they get someone who is not that good...I doubt this seat will turn, but you never know. After all, the other side cheats.
Ellison has been in Congress since 2007, and served as deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee since last year, as a leader of the Bernie Sanders wing of the party. But he’s been chafing for months at both roles: being in the minority in Congress and being subsumed to DNC Chairman Tom Perez, who beat him for the top job.
Great.
Considering that right now the DNC is not in the greatest shape with their finances, they now lose the major representative of the Bernie Sanders wing. Like Bernie or not, his name raised money.
The biggest reason that is stated in the article for him running for Attorney General is going after Trump. As AG, he could sue the hell out of him.
More power to him. He has Minneapolis and St. Paul, but out-state is another story.
Buckle up.
