The New York Post (Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post) and Fox News (Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News) have just outed who the informant was on the Trump 2016 presidential campaign. They are following other media outlets, such as Glenn Greenwald’s The Intercept. All are calling this guy a spy.
A Cambridge professor with deep ties to American and British intelligence has been outed as an agent who snooped on the Trump presidential campaign for the FBI.
“Cambridge Professor Outed as FBI Informant Inside Trump Campaign” NY Post, 5/19/2018
And Glenn…
AN EXTREMELY STRANGE EPISODE that has engulfed official Washington over the last two weeks came to a truly bizarre conclusion on Friday night. And it revolves around a long-time, highly sketchy CIA operative, Stefan Halper.
”The FBI Informant Who Monitored the Trump Campaign, Stefan Halper, Oversaw a CIA Spying Operation in the 1980 Presidential Election” by Glenn Greenwald, 5/19/2018
The problem is, he was a spy for Ronald Reagan back in 1980.
The Reagan campaign wanted to get information about Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy moves. The reason that the focus was on foreign policy is because President Carter and his team were trying to release some hostages in Iran. They were worried about a “rumored” October surprise that would cause their defeat (remember, Reagan didn’t win by much in 1980).
Not much came of this operation. You can read about this at the New York Times. Here is the archived page.
To be honest, that kind of smells. Mr. Halper has worked as a CIA operative and, now, an FBI informant.
Here’s the thing. All informants have a bit of a smell to them.
We’re going to hear more “deep state” crapola from every Republican that can find a microphone. The one thing that they will do is to point out the timeline. This did happen when James Comey was head of the FBI and Eric Holder was his boss. This is what they’ll use to try to make this go away, but more importantly create a lot more chaos for Robert Mueller. I don’t think it will work, but I am certain this will have the effect of galvanizing Trump’s troops (that vaunted approximately 40% of the American electorate) to show up at the polls. This is most likely the biggest hope of the Republicans.
I can just see now how Rudy is going to implode on Sunday morning. “You see? This is entrapment, pure and simple. This investigation should shut down now!”
We will hear of the fainting spells that members of the Trump White House will have as they say, “Obama was spying on us.” You know that’s where this is going.
Trump has tweeted:
xReports are there was indeed at least one FBI representative implanted, for political purposes, into my campaign for president. It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a “hot†Fake News story. If true - all time biggest political scandal!

The reality? This is becoming more like a Mafia investigation every day. If you have read David Kay Johnston’s “The Making of Donald Trump”, you will not be surprised at this. This revelation puts this into that rare air because informants are often the best way to break crime syndicates, and, in most cases, they are often despicable people. Back in the 80’s, the New York District Attorney’s office successfully prosecuted John Gotti, head of the infamous Gambino crime family with testimony of one of his lieutenants, Sammy “The Bull” Gravano. Sammy was a murderer and breaker of knees extraordinaire.
By the way, the person leading the investigation was Rudolph Giuliani.
Stefan Halper is a lifelong Republican and worked with the CIA. He also spied on Carter. I have heard that he also has some pretty choice words to say about Trump, so his bias will be attacked alongside these other points. However, compared to Sammy The Bull, Halper is a amateur.
Here is what I believe needs to happen with this topic:
I am hoping that someone interviews Sammy The Bull over the next couple of days to provide information on how important it is to have informants. He’ll mention Rudy and say how the case wouldn’t have been made without him. I am hoping people who interview Rudy will remind him of one of his greatest successes. This truly was a great success where he put himself at personal risk. It was confirmed after Gotti went to prison that the Gambino family was thinking of killing him. I want someone to ask Rudy about the value of informants to a case. If he even equivocates, go back to the above step. I am hoping that someone brings back David Kay Johnston to read from his book (now in paperback). I am hoping people will make the comparison between Gotti and Trump, because they are there.Just read David Kay Johnston’s book, you will see what I mean.
